Dogtown has these junkies that will randomly go crazy when you pass them by, and follow and attack you, their paranoia winning them over. I could tell that this fearsome woman here was on the verge of jumping at me, so I tried some good old-fashioned talking.

I don't know if it was my words or my calming green-colored outfit that did it, but she did not attack me.

This dude has spikes all over his skull. He must be used to people freaking out around him, because he took my antics in stride with a kind of slightly bemused acceptance.

Chatting with some ladies hanging out near a street lamp in Dogtown at night. I only noticed the smoke the lady on the left exhales being blueish after taking the shot. I had been wondering if it was that cold because I saw no cigarette, but no. They are both tripping on those ubiquituous inhalers.

I was lucky to take the shot just as a car was driving by, which added some cool lighting to the scene. Taking shots at night is always a challenge, so I'm happy how it turned out.

Ah, Dogtown. The crackheads here are on a whole different level. Case in point, this dude. ...I tried some basic forms of communication, but he was too far off into some internal place.

I'm amazed that the game designers took the time to create this animation!

A perfect place to settle down a bit between jobs.

I dusted off my corpo oufit for this :D I visited this location previously during a mission, and which I found it again purely by chance walking around blindly.

I found the woman on the right standing there at night, seemingly scowling both at everyone and no one in particular. I joined in to lend some support. Life, amirite?

Found this hidden inside an underpass somewhere overflowing with junk.

Funny how we often assign colours to places without realizing it. For me, Pacifica is exactly this: bright and shiny pink and blue. The car I found abandoned on a parking lot a few miles back fit the color scheme perfectly.

It was a hot day, and for once the water was crystal clear. It felt good to wade through it, letting the fingertips drag along the water surface.

I fancy thinking that this small 666th Street gang was harassing some innocent passerbys, but they were actually just shooting at bottles. So it looks way more dramatic than it was. Doubly so, since they had no homicide or murder in their NCPD rap sheets: They will live to see another day.

Without really intending to, I hit photo mode just when my combat accelerator kicked in. The speed effect really looks as if my character's racing to keep the 666th Street wooman from shooting.

At the very least, you can expect to be ejected if the driver hits another car. Night City drivers are not known for their finesse, that's for sure ^^

On a sidenote, this is not my regular character. It's the character that I use for clothing mod screenshots, and here I was running around looking for a good screenshotting location when two cars crashed right beside me. I must have spent the better part of an hour trying out situations and poses to take advantage of the event.

Who says Night City can't be charming? I would take that apartment instead of my Megabuilding one anytime. Smelling the Ramen in the evening... yum :D

These two robots were not easy to get close to. I had to make a mad dash between them, and take the shot before they started to react to my presence. It was worth it!

_This is where you can take a photo together with Kerry and the girl band Us Cracks. I switched outfits just for this, as I felt it fit the occasion better than my outfit at the time. I think it looks pretty good!

It was hell to set up. Finding a pose that was not too much sitting on the ground and not too tall either, and which would not clip into anyone, really took a while._

This street vendor had more customers than any other vendor I saw since I started playing. Those must be really good skewers :D

These three I usually only met walking around solo. They were standing there together all businesslike, ready to tackle anything that came at them. Expecting trouble, from the looks of it. Maybe even welcoming it? It is Night City, after all.

If you look at their uniform, you'll see that they are three different kinds of policemen/women. Maybe something happened here out of sight. Regardless, it looks cool.

Discussing threads with another nighttime shopper. I think we will have to choose something fast, because the owner looks like she's going to bed soon ^^

Occasionally you will see people taking a nap on a table at a bar. I had to laugh seeing this - one has to wonder what kind of drinks they serve here. Chamomile tea maybe?

From that other maniac talking about flamingo conspiracies to someone just throwing a bunch of them into the trash, I wonder why everyone has something against Flamingos?

For my next gig, I figured I would drive there in style. As it happened, a big fight had broken out in the city between some gangs and a bunch of policement. They left this car unlocked, so I did not even have to do any fancy evasion driving :D

And yes, I'm channeling some Johnny here. He won't say it, but I'm sure that he's proud of me.

I met this guy on a street corner, smiling widely. It was an infectious smile in a city that does not smile that much. I felt it had to be commemorated.

Taking a break with friends in a nicer part of town for some light shopping. Cleo (on the left) looks like she's pondering her life choices, but don't let that fool you. Her middle name is "Style", and she's likely just planning what kind of threads she'll buy next to complete her shopping tour.

I think this shot illustrates very well how much Rogue still cares about Johnny. Not that it was in question, mind you.

It also shows yet again how well the game handles facial expressions.

My favorite news anchor was broadcasting live again. Of course I had to hop into the spotlight.

There did not seem to be any non-plant life in this terrarium. A lizard of some kind would have been neat. Still very pretty, though.

The developers made a terrific job bringing the festive mood across.

I would love to take credit for this, but those cars were already like this when I got there.

...this cop lady's gaze would have burned me to cinders already. It might have been because she was stuck in traffic, but I'm not entirely positive. I did not linger to ask :D

I found this modern times cowboy in one of the NCPD scanner missions. He was actually a decent opponent, and very stylish to boot. I don't take many action shots, but he is quite unique, and I like the result.

For this shot, I was pausing the game to look at my attacker's facial expressions. I had not realized that you can actually see shell casings fly from the gun while she's shooting.

If you noticed the green glow around the pants, that only happens in photo mode with this specific color variant. In some cases, like here, it can look cool :D

I was attacked by three mobs on my way to El Capitan's garage for this car. It might show a teeny little bit, but El Capitan still said that I had a gift when I brought it to him.

I wonder what he sees in these wrecks I sometimes bring him. Especially this one, there was barely anything left. I don't see what "finishing touches" his mechanic can make to fix this.

I saw a cop arresting a random guy on a street corner, and just could not pass by this entertainment.

As I was standing there watching the whole thing unfold, she turned to me and asked if we had a problem. The guy she was arresting chose this moment to try and wriggle free. Unfazed and still watching me, she thrust him back against the wall.

Needless to say, we definitely did not have a problem.

Night City in a Nutshell :D

Okay, so I cheated for this one. I walked by this cop lady, and she looked over like most NPCs do if you approach them. I set up the shot so it looks like she's checking out my character as she walks by.

On a sidenote, now I see what's been bugging me about this shot. I left my character's expression on neutral. This calls for a knowing smirk or a smile :|

A DJ had set up a little dance session on the beach, and this lady (on the left) had some really slick moves. I joined the fray, and enjoyed the music for a while.

It's always fun to see these spontaneous little parties. I had been to this beach before, but it was a desolate place back then. The sunlight makes every place come more alive somehow.

This looks like the glowing paint is my Ninja spirit, heh.

On a sidenote, I battled for ages getting the lighting in this scene at least passable. Even adding custom ambient lights using AMM did not work the way I wanted it to. As a result, the light on V's face is a bit strange.

I love this car, and especially this paint job, to bits.

Those hologram clothes are pretty cool, and this lady was rocking that violet/pink outfit. I just had to compliment her.

On a sidenote, it's so rare to see NPCs smile. This was as close to a real smile that I managed to capture one so far, I believe (I'll have to dig into my archives to check).

Helping out at the counter in a little wonton shop in Jig-Jig Street. Quiet night, mostly. I think that one lady on the left is going to finish her night sleeping on the counter.

Found this little street kiosk open in the middle of the night, and it had exactly the magazine I wanted ^^

I don't much like the Tyger Claws, but this lady here has talent. Her NCPD database sheet did not list any murders either, so she lived to draw another day.

This hologram was the perfect counterpart to my V's outfit called "White dragon" ^^

This lady was training on her own in her front yard, so I poposed to do a little sparring together.

It seems pretty clear that I am far from being a professional boxer. Who in their right mind boxes with glasses on?

I found someone willing to listen to my wild stories. They are eminently popcorn-worthy :P

Don't ask me how I did it. I only remember wanting to turn, and a car hitting me from the side ^^

Yup. That's a literal mountain of trash. It goes as far as the eye can see. Sadly I could not climb to the very top, as it seems to be outside the game world boundaries. Still, this trash heap looks like it could use some recycling, most of this stuff doesn't look halfway bad :)

After 600 hours of playing the game, sometimes an NPC I have never seen before will just walk by. In this instance, I did a double-take. That outfit is really neat! (Seen in Dogtown)

I had seen this only once before: A spontaneous dance party with random people from the street. The guy on top of the scaffolding turned on his radio, and they just gathered there and started dancing. Naturally my V had to join in ^^

I like the guy on the right with the yellow shirt. He doesn't have any slick moves, but it doesn't matter. Everybody moves whichever way the music infuses them.

Here was someone who wore the same kind of beanie that my V was wearing at the time. I was a little out of place there with this kind of corpo chic, but I think the beanie opened the door of the companionship of the fire barrel.

_This is in pacifica at night, exactly where I had taken the same shot a long time ago. That had several issues though. The face ended up way too dark for one, and increasing the lighting only made the map hologram illegible.

Now with the ray tracing, it looks a lot better. The face actually gets some of the hologram's light._

It's amazing what they did with character expressions in the game - this being a prime example. I managed to grab this frame right when the blue relic image distorions were at their lowest. Mad screenshotting skills ftw \o/

I have been looking for a good selfie spot for a while now. This footbridge above one of the main roads was cool, because it seems to go on forever, with the classic ad-charged buildings around.

Unless it's synthetic grass? I could not tell. What's neat though is that little electronic case fixed to the tree: It's powered, and if I understand this right, it's there to water the tree when it needs watering. At least it's not connected to any lights, so I'm assuming here.

My poor ride is a bit worse for wear (luckily the engine is in the back, heh), but I made first place ^^

Oh, and of course it rained.

Soooo annoying, these people that move so fast your bullets can't hit them. I found that fists work pretty well though. Case in point :D

Okay, I may have hit him a little too hard. These brutes are enormous and full of implants, but hit them over a head just a teeny tiny bit, and you can hear stuff rattle. Surely that's no good sign.

My favorite (not) pals from 6th street are throwing a party, and I have to say: They may be the scum of the earth, but they know how to dance. I think they should consider a career change.

Sidenote: That coat is awesome, but it's very hard to get a good shot of V's face with it when you're facing the light. It reflects so much light into the face that it looks like splotches. You're a walking disco ball with that thing.

I crossed paths with the leopard suit lady again. Is that a hint of a smile I see?

Actually, I very nearly flattened her when I stopped in Japantown with my banged-up ride (Jig-Jig street is right behind the camera). I stopped close enough to ruffle her hair.

Yup. You know, the classic helicopter one-hand stand shooting maneuver. Guaranteed to dazzle and confuse. The smoke helps too, great location for it overall. 9/10.

Looking for some Voodoo boys in the urban jungle.

This spot was far from pretty, being in an industrial part of town, but it did not keep these folk from being completely zen. It was a welcome change of pace.

Seriously, look at'im. He's got his own cushion, lotsa bits to nibble on, and a bunch o' humans to dote on him.

This lady must have thought me part of the general hooligan rabble, judging from the side-eye she's giving me :D

It's not often that you see something this wholesome in Night City, so I did a double take when I saw this couple dozing on a public bench in the afternoon sun.

Can you imagine just standing there munching a hawt dog? In plain sight? It's a recipe for assault, I tell you.

Yup, just us both on a leisurely stroll through Night City at night, feeling fabulous ^^

The afternoon tea session with Mr. Hands was pretty cool, I must say. It was nice to see this character's history a bit more fleshed out. I liked the style of the building too, with a touch of egyptian elegance.

The Voodoo boys have a lair in Dogtown, and it has this giant mural with luminous paint. It looks and feels eerie, especially because when you get there, a Voodoo themed background music starts playing.

The damn thing broke down on the highway bridge. The fact that I just came out of a wild car chase and lost the engine hood and both doors may have something to do with it.

This outfit (my V is in the middle) was made for the dance floor.

Yup, that's me, not liking the idea of hopping into that tub filled with ice cubes. The Netrunner lady illuminated by her computer screen was neat though.

I always liked those Voodoo Boys' luminous graffiti.

This is Fred's Diner, during the talk with Takemura. I had never noticed this nice view simply looking left. Sadly the camera controls do not allow changing the FOV during conversations, so I could not get the whole pizza into the shot. No big loss though, it looks like it's one of those pineapple abominations.

Night City Sunrise (say, that's a great name for a cocktail). The windmills only add to the charm, I think.

By chance I found myself climbing up to the radio towers on foot, as I wanted to get to the other side of the hills for a gig. I looked so tranquil from up here, without all the noise from the ads, gunfights and co.

I can only assume that this person is an important figure for Night City, but I have no clue who it is. Pretty statue, though.

This was one of those shots you can make by pure chance. When I hastily aligned for the shot (because the lady would very soon walk into a shadow area), I noticed the "Happy Hour" poster :D

I'm in between gigs, catching up with all that laundry. It won't help with all the bullet holes, but at least everything will be clean. Don't you just love the scent of freshly washed clothes when going on a gig?

Popcorn and hot dogs, yup. The vendor seemed dubious.

This is such a great spot for the "Knight City" pose.

So there was a little altercation with a gang of Tyger Claws here, and everyone (understandably) upped and left, including the owner of this neat little stand here. There was a wok still on the stove, so I did what any sensible merc would do, and held the shop until the air cleared :D

This lady was relaxing here, looking at... a giant heap of trash. To top off this nonsense, there was a really nice lounging area to the left, with trees and everything.

Ever since I played Duke Nukem (feels like forever ago now), where a lot of funny stuff happened in bathrooms, I make a habit of checking all bathrooms in games.

In this bar, I thought that the realism went above and beyond: On the women's side, everything was pristine. Checking out the men's side, I came upon this mess. It reflects reality so much that I simply cannot believe this not to be intentional :P

Okay, this dude had a really unique style. Not an outfit I'd wear myself, but there was definitely something going on here.

Surely this was more than an outfit randomly generated by the game. Which made me think: how many NPC's outfits are randomly generated, or rather, how many are based on hand-crafted presets?

UPDATE: I learned that the NPCs are handcrafted, and each has predefined sets of clothing. This has been improved over time to include random hair color changes and the like to add some more variation.

Always on the lookout for unique NPCs, I found Mr Barkeep here, with his stylish red beard. Of course I had to order something - it was sunny, the spot was beautiful, so I felt a cocktail was in order.

Seen from this hotel room balcony, Night City seems to be just one big block of towers.

I saw this lady in the Afterlife. I feel that she is the embodiment of Cyberpunk, especially the scene as a whole with the dancers in the cylinders in the background.

So in my newest playthrough, I noticed this decoration in Yorinobu's suite in Konpeki Plaza. I had a closer look, and was amazed to see an iguana sitting on that wood log. I was further amazed when I realized that this is probably the iguana that I smuggled with Jackie at the beginning of this nomad playthrough.

Aye, I think you may have had enough, Panam. Let me drive you home?

Yup, I think we're both ready for the catwalk.

So, I explored the Afterlife a bit more than in previous playthroughs, and found that there is actually a DJ booth.

A little dedication to the Moxes. You do good work, ladies.

A forgotten suburb of Night City, transformed into a shanty town now housing many of those the city has forsaken. I was perched on this big electronic poster that has toppled over, endlessly trying to play old ads on a broken screen, when a war veteran ambled over. He was in need of some kind words.

Saw this lady standing in a corridor under a lamp in a seedy, half decrepit hotel. I don't know what she was cogitating about, but it did not look overly optimistic.

I was considering attacking the gangoons visible in the background, when an NCPD officer walked by. I approached him as he waited to cross the road, intending to ask him to help me deal with them. He was not amenable to the idea. In fact, he was rather rude and told me that he had some lead reserved especially for me.

I handled the gangoons on my own.

I had not seen this outfit yet, and seeing this lady strutting through one of the shabbier parts of town made me make a double-take. One can clearly see what she thinks of me and my outfit though. She has that typical "Ugh... maybe if I ignore her she'll go away" look.

This guy lifting weights was downright scary. He lifted those weights as if they weighed nothing. Also, he called me a weasel and had that weird necklace with bones (are those...? no, surely not).

Found these twins training in an area where a whole group of people were exercising outside. I don't think they really appreciated my antics. One guy lifting weights called me a weasel. Still, these two sure looked like they meant business. Respect.

This goes to show yet again how much attention to detail there is in this game. Granted, most of the NPC population does not do anything worthwile, but these small exceptions contribute to an overall feeling of that the city is more than just mindless empty shells walking around.

This lake is atificial, the dam is somewhere to the right. I liked this spot, because for once there is not a single structure in sight (okay, I cheated - there is a house in the distance hidden by my character's hair). This lone stick on the beach looked like it could use some company though :P

Yup, this car is definitely a beast. It doesn't even slow down for trees, much less for cacti.

I was in the badlands when a sandstorm happened. In the bad visibility, I had the wild luck to find this beast of a car. The sandstorm lighting was quite special, so I had to jump out for a shot.

I wanted to see the pretty ferris wheel lights at night, so I did some climbing. It was definitely worth it :D

I had noticed this lady with a hang drum (also called a hand pan) in a previous playthrough, and was happy to see that she was still there. It made for a nice relaxing evening, even if she kept saying that she's waiting for her friend for some reason (?).

Flavio, wanted dead by the 6th street gang, thought it a good idea to organize a "Farewell Night City" party for himself. This turned into a bloodbath, getting a lot of civilians killed - almost everyone but Flavio. This was one of those times when I felt that justice was not served, as my job was to save him. I wanted to wring his neck. When I handed him over to the nomad tasked to transport him out of the city, I hopped into my car and followed. I did not really know what I would do yet, so I just kept my distance.

As fate would have it, they were forced to stop when they drove into a street blockaded with burning cars. To make the irony even sweeter, it was a 6th street gang blockade.

I toyed with the idea of letting the gang take care of Flavio, but decided against it. While Flavio's ill-advised party idea got all those people killed, he did not pull the trigger. That was entirely to blame on 6th street. I dispatched the gang members while Flavio and the Nomad stayed in the car. When the dust settled, I noticed that the car's engine was smoking - it had taken a few stray shots.

As an experiment, I saved the game, and put a few more shots into the car. I was curious to see what would happen if it exploded. Before it did, both the Nomad and Flavio got out of the car. My suspicions were confirmed however, when I put the last shots into the car and the resulting explosion did not kill them. They were flagged as invincible by the game.

Still, his ride now in flames, Flavio would have to crawl the rest of the way to a ripperdoc. I suppose that will have to be justice enough.

When I was on this street (in front of the Peralez' building), I felt it was a good spot to celebrate my V's achievements. Yup, a lowly nomad outcast managed to climb to fame :)

Traffic jam + nice car. Could not resist :P

A few hooligans had set up some nice tunes on the waterfront. Usually I check NCPD records and dispatch murderers right away, but in this case there were too many civilians present. No matter: I was sure we would cross paths again, so I put my righteous impulses on hold and joined the party :D

I quite liked this lady's style, so I engaged her for a little chat. I think she was slightly amused by my antics, judging by that smirk.

This lady was standing next to a traffic light like this with her arms crossed. I thought she would appreciate some crossed arms support.

I have to admit, I'm a bad driver. I only know one speed - pedal to the metal. This lady here was there when I crashed into oncoming traffic, and - quite understandably - started running. Curiosity got the better of me, so I ran after her, intending to find out how long she would run.

I'm not sure if having me chasing her on foot kept her running (seems reasonable), but she showed no inclination of ever stopping.

This looks awkward. It is doubly so if you take the bloodbath into account that's hidden off screen after the gig I just completed. It's quite wild to see that such mayhem can be so easily transformed into such a tranquil scene. Okay, the pose definitely looks forced though.

When the Jinguji store was attacked, MaxTac dropped a chopper in front. I had parked my car there before going in, so I was quite happy to see that they did not squash it when I came back out again. It even looked as if it was all planned.

(If you look closely, you'll see that the police officer behind is actually standing in the car)

Talk about attention to detail... After completing a gig, I saw our favorite news anchor recording a piece. When I walked by (in front of the camera drone), she complained that I ruined the recording, and that she would have to start again.

This, of course, immediately made my immature side come alive. I mean, my V did have a lot to say :D

This overpass had some hooligan squatters that I got rid of. This woman stayed there through the gunfight, eating her noodles as if the world around her did not exist. Standing there beside her afterward next to the fire, I got an inkling of the appeal - it was a nice quiet spot for sure.

Konpeki Plaza, right after checking into the hotel (my V is in the middle with the red hair). In previous playthroughs I had noticed this russian-sounding lady animatedly talking with her friend (the stylish gentleman in the background). This time, I decided to follow the pair. Their discussion was quite interesting, and we ended up here for a group smoke break.

(Aside) Seriously though, what's up with all the smoking? Humanity as a whole is trying to get rid of the dependency, but so much media (movies, tv series, games...) continue to depict it as if it was the coolest thing ever. Not helping. And now I realize I'm actually complicit just by posting this here. Argh?
